A Chronology of Notable Events at Wheeler Saddle Club:
February 1, 2008 - Board Rates Increase

Effective February 1st, 2008 Barn rates will rise $50.00 per month to $100.00 per barn. This is per DFMWR.
January 12, 2008 - New Feed Store Location
 
Due to the new housing contruction on Schofield, the remaining buildings of the late golf course, including the golf cart shed...the
second Wheeler Stables Feed Store location...have given way to construction forcing a move back to the Wheeler Stables.
February 24, 2007 - David Carswell Clinic
 
David Carswell's first visit to the Saddle Club. David teaches the art of horsemanship throughout Hawaii and is the
resident trainer on the Princeville Ranch. His clinic was a great success and well attended with 12 riders and over 15 auditors.

February 2007 - Grand Canyon Repairs

After years of having a dangerous ditch and riding hazard on the stable
road, repairs have started on the filling in of the "grand canyon".
December 30, 2006 - Natural Horsemanship Clinic
David Lichman provided the expert instruction for his third visit to the Saddle Club with the Advance Level 1
and Level 2 Parelli Natural Horsemanship Clinic. The clinic was very well attended with both members and non-members.
April 15, 2006 - New Feed Store Location

Due to the heavy rains in March road conditions to the Saddle Club have deteriorate so much and have
become such a safety issue that the Feed Store operations had to move to Building 1284 Schofield Barracks.
March 2006 - Del Monte Pineapple Operations Closing

March 2006 may see the last of the pineapple planting at the Del Monte pineapple fields. This will be the end
of over 100 years of pineapple operations. While Dole will continue their pineapple operations, trail riding through the
pineapple fields may be coming to an end. The March plantings won't be harvested till 2008.

March 25, 2005 - Combat Service Support Group

Mr. Ted Otaguro, Director of Community Activities, presented Lt. Maida, OIC of the Combat Service Support Group, a gift
of appreciation on behalf of the Saddle Club members for their work on the arena. The group...in a short 16 days...grubbed,
cleared, and leveled 3 acreas of land. Clearing two arena areas, one a 300' x 150' area, and another a 200' x 100' area. They
also spread 180 tons of coral/gravel and cleared 1.5 miles of road...and more.
August 2004 - Feed Store Grand Opening

First feed trailer arrives at the Saddle Club for the Grand Opening of the Feed Store.
August 1987 - National Historic Landmark

The Secretary of the Interior officially designated Wheeler Air Force Base as a National Historic Landmark. A site of
national significance in the history of the United States and in World War II in the Pacific. The bombing of Wheeler were
important objectives of the Japanese force that attacked Oahu on December 7, 1941. The Japanese attack destroyed 83 aircraft,
and rendered this facility practically helpless. The 1941 flight line, hangars, and barracks building survive.
June 1918 - Major Sheldon H. Wheeler

Major Sheldon H. Wheeler, pictured at Carlstrom Aviation Field, Arcadia, Florida on June 16, 1918.
Wheeler Air Force Base was returned to the Department of the Army on November 1, 1991.
